Activities For Infants : The First Three Months
From the first day of birth to three months your infant is learning. He/she is learning to recognize your voice, your face and your touch. They associate those things with comfort and will start to smile after a while when he sees you. There are many interaction activities for infants to stimulate their ability to learn.
Once baby starts to know you, they will start to become more alert and they will begin to develop their curiosity. Things around them will start to become interesting and they will become physically stronger and more coordinated. Teaching an infant is encouraged through talking to them; they learn to respond to your voice. Activities for infants in the first months of life involve the parents voice and touch.
In the first and second months baby waits for you to initiate the interactions. Their little personality will start to emerge. Some good activities for infant include mommy, daddy and baby. A good first activity for your newborn is to hold your baby close to your body let them hear your heart beat, smell you and feel you thus bonding with you. Say your baby’s name as you touch him/her. Always talk to your baby while interacting with them. By the end of third month baby will engage you with gestures, their expressions and vocalizations. Their eyesight and hearing will improve greatly and he will be able to distinguish between sights and sounds. This is when the baby mobile starts becoming one of the activities for infants that they enjoy. They have mobiles that spin are colorful and play music. Babies reach out as the mobile spins. Any thing encouraging reaching and reaction is good activities for infants at this stage. Some good infant activities to do with your baby at this stage is interacting with baby using a rattle or sound toy and assist baby from turning side to side to touch the noisy toy. You can give baby a massage and tell him each body part as you massage it. Ex. “This is your arm, this is your tummy etc. You could sing it, or say it in a rhythm for variation of this infant activity. Your baby will start to respond to your smile at this stage also. Also babies will discover their hands now so clapping baby’s hands together and singing is also a good activity to do with infants. By three and 4 months baby will respond to these activities by squealing and laughing. They will start to open and shut their fist and activities for infants now can include placing objects like rattles and toys in their hands. There are many resources available for activities for infants. There are books, online resources and actual activity groups that you can join with your infant. The main thing is to enjoy your time and activities with your infant and make sure that the bond is there. This bond will carry you for both of your lives.
