Everyone Should Have Cpr Instruction

It is a good idea for everyone to take some sort of Cpr instruction. For those who can’t go to a formal class for certification there are all kinds of Cpr instruction available on line to get some kind of idea of how to do Cpr in an emergency situation. Nothing takes the place of a hands on Cpr instruction course but at least look at the online information available because it can help you save a life in an emergency.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is a very important skill to have. Cpr has been shown to save lives that would have been lost if it wasn’t given to those in need. It can prolong a life until EMS or another emergency life rescuing service can come to take over for the person administering it. Cpr is used primarily to revive cardiac arrest victims. It can also be used for respiratory failure, drowning victims and victims of drug overdoses among other kinds of emergencies as well.

Cpr is basically a system of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions. Cpr instruction teaches mouth-to-mouth which gets air to the lungs by way of the person administering it to the victim while the chest compressions circulate oxygen to the brain and other organs.

Cpr instruction also emphasizes that timing is important as well. How quickly things are done and the space in between mouth-to-mouth and chest compressions can mean life and death for someone. If Cpr is not administered within the first 4 minutes of a cardiac arrest then a person can be permanently brain damaged and other organs damaged as well. A person without any Cpr in cardiac arrest can die between 4 to 6 minutes.

Cpr instruction with hands on training is very important also. This applies especially to the chest compressions. If the chest compressions are too hard or violent the chest wall can cave in and if they are to soft then it can fail to force the adequate amount of circulation to the brain. In Cpr instruction, there are hands on with dummies. The instructor can guide the student for the correct compression pressure.

Basic Cpr instruction for Adult Cpr is as follows. #1. Make sure the situation is safe for you to help. Ex. If you are at a crime and a person has a gun, you need to access if the gun holder will let you work without shooting. #2. Make sure there is some sort of universal precautions available. You don’t know if the person has aids or not. (It’s a good idea to keep a pair of rubber gloves and a facemask in your pockets or pocketbook if possible). #3. Check to see if more than one person is in need of help or not. #4. Check for responsiveness. Yell “Are You Okay” and then yell for help!! If others are there yell for them to call 911. #5. Position the victim on their back. #6. Open the victim’s airway by tilting the head back called a head-tilt chin-lift or jaw-thrust maneuver. If you suspect a broken neck or spine it is better to use the jaw-thrust maneuver. #7. Look-Listen and Feel for Breathes. Check for signs of breathing every 10 to 15 seconds. #8. If they are not breathing do to mouth-to-mouth breaths. #9. Check for a pulse by palpitating (feeling) for the carotid artery. This is the neck pulse point. Check for a pulse every 10 seconds. #10.If there is still no pulse, start chest compressions. You do 15 chest compressions to 2 breaths. Check for a pulse after 60 seconds. You repeat 15 chest compressions to 2 breaths until help comes.

Hopefully with these steps you saved some ones life by keeping them alive until help got there. These are just an outlined step by step of the actual Cpr procedure. Of course you need actual Cpr instruction with a trained instructor to execute them properly.
